Associate Professor, Professor or Professor The School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) invites applications for a tenured position, Associate Professor or Professor; or for the position of Professor of Professional Practice in the field of energy policy. Candidates will be considered from the academic community, the private sector, the public sector, or an international or non-governmental organization. Responsibilities include oversight of and teaching in the Master's degree level program on International Energy Management and Policy (IEMP). The candidate will also be expected to contribute to the further development of the research profile of the Center for Energy Marine Transportation and Public Policy (CEMTPP); currently in-place and planned research programs at CEMTPP are described at http://www.cemtpp.org. The courses to be taught are to some extent dependent on the candidate's experience, but they will include the IEMP flagship course, Energy Economics, which provides an introduction to methods and applications of energy market modeling and project valuation. Beyond this essential emphasis on energy economics and energy business, expertise on the emerging markets for carbon emission credits, environmental services and more generally the interface between energy, the environment and climate will be preferred. Alternatively, other fields of interest include development economics, transportation economics, design and regulation of electricity and natural gas markets, and petroleum economics. The ideal candidate will be a leader in the field of energy economics broadly defined, with a keen understanding of the policy, regulatory and business context in which the economics of energy projects is to be analyzed. He or she will share the CEMTPP objective of continuing to develop a centre of excellence to which graduate students, energy industry leaders and policy makers can turn in support of their essential objectives. He or she will work closely with the Executive Director of the Center and with the whole CEMTPP faculty and research team to further articulate this project in synergy with an educational offering that is second to none in the field. Knowledge of the petroleum industry, electric power generation, and alternatives to fossil fuels will be advantageous as will experience with environmental and other regulatory issues and policy issues. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of their distinguished record of research and publications in the field of energy economics and/or on their high-level U.S. and international experience in both private and public sector energy activities. A minimum of Ph.D. is required. Remuneration will be competitive, reflecting the candidate's qualifications. All applications should include a c.v., cover letter and names of at least three referees. Applications are currently being accepted until the position is filled. E-mail all materials to Elena Chon, Academic Department Administrator, at ec2555@columbia.edu. The School of International and Public Affairs brings together an interdisciplinary faculty to conduct research in policy-related fields and train students at the masters and doctoral level for careers in global public policy.
